CCD Open Data Notes The Cordon Count Data (CCD) includes directional traffic counts at selected sites to understand how vehicles and people move across the region. Traffic data includes the number of vehicles as well as the number of passengers transported by different vehicle types and the transit system. The interval of CCD collection varies 2-3 years across agencies. CCD provides data for three time periods: 13 hours, AM peak periods, and PM peak periods. Summary data are provided for these three time periods for different screen lines, and directions. Limitations of the Data: When using the data provided here please note the following limitations: 1. The Cordon Count Data is typically collected during May to early June of the year in question for weekdays (except Fridays). 2. The Cordon Count Data provides a one-day snap-shot of traffic at each station counted by direction. Note that there are natural fluctuations in traffic volume and composition by day of week and month due to many factors such as weather, geographic distribution of industrial and commercial activities in the region and economic cycles. 3. All data provided here are aggregated spatially combining individual station counts to provide screenline counts. 4. Vehicle volume and classification data are increasingly supplemented by automated methods and estimates to provide occupancy data. 5. Subway and GO-Train Ridership counts are provided by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and GO Transit respectively. File Organization: The “CCD_dataset” ZIP file contains several folders named according to the name of the regional municipalities. Each folder contains CSV data files following the “ccXXXX_YY_ZZ” file name convention, whereas XXXX indicates the year of data collection ranging from 1975 to 2016 YY indicates the regional municipality name such as Durham, Halton, Peel, Toronto, Hamilton and York ZZ indicates the time period of data collection. “am” means morning peak period (6-9am), “pm” means afternoon peak period (3-6pm), and “13” means 13 hours (6am-7pm). Field Descriptions: “SCREENLINE”: name of the screenline along which traffic counts were conducted.
