Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network (OBBN)

The following represents the basic information about this layer on the MOE Data Download Page.
This metadata is extracted from what is held in the LIO metadata holdings through M-squared (M2), the Metadata Management Tool. Because the extract is through an XML file, all formatting is removed. For a more complete version, see the link in M2 (below).

Abstract: Information pertaining to the Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network: includes benthic-invertebrate taxa-counts, habitat, water chemistry, sampling locations, and information describing records (e.g., sampling agencies, taxonomists, collection dates, waterbody types)

1. The Benthos Portal (OBBN database) is a dynamic system. Data were collected, using standard methods, by certified Network participants. Standard methods and certification of Network participants help ensure data reliability; however, errors will occur in the database.
2. Network members assume no liability associated with use of OBBN data or errors in the OBBN dataset
3. Before publishing reports based on OBBN data, authors should notify data owners of their intent to publish. Data owners should be acknowledged in publications.

Purpose: Benthic-invertebrate bioassessment of aquatic-ecosystem condition
